The Holy Spirit

The person of God who lives in you — not a force, not a feeling

Introduction

For many Christians, the Holy Spirit is the part of God they believe in but couldn't quite describe. Father and Son feel familiar. The Spirit feels like a rumor.

But Jesus said it was better for his followers that he leave, so the Spirit could come. That's a remarkable claim — and it's worth understanding what he meant by it.

Scripture

John 14:16–17

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth... for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Galatians 5:22–23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Romans 8:26

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Translation note: Scripture quotations are from the King James Version (KJV). The King James Version is in the public domain.
