Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
Grounded is designed to be a private, personal experience focused on reflection, reading, and spiritual growth.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how your information is handled.
Information we collect
You may use some Grounded features as a guest or create an optional account. For guests and signed-in users, Grounded may use anonymous or session identifiers and collect app interactions, screens or features used, session activity, platform or device type, general technical information, and attribution information such as referral or UTM data.
If you create an account, Grounded collects your email address, account and user identifiers, and any optional profile information you provide. These support authentication, account features, synchronization, and subscription access. Your email is not sold.
Information Grounded may process includes:
- Anonymous and session identifiers, app interactions, feature activity, and product analytics
- Device type, platform, and general request or technical information
- Account identifiers, profile information, and synchronized app content for signed-in users
- Attribution, referral, and UTM information used to understand how people find and use Grounded
- RevenueCat identifiers, subscription status, product and entitlement information, and Apple or Google transaction information
- Limited app activity signals used for install attribution and campaign measurement on iOS (see Meta App Events below)
Your personal content
Your journals, reflections, saved prayers, saved verses, reading and journey progress, preferences, sermon notes and photographs, and similar content may be stored locally on your device. If you sign in, supported content may also be synchronized through Supabase so it is available with your account.
This content is not public or available to other Grounded users through the app. Grounded does not sell your personal content or use it for third-party behavioral advertising. Grounded and its service providers may process content as needed to provide synchronization, storage, AI-supported features, security, and other app functionality described in this policy.
AI processing
Grounded includes AI-supported features such as Guidance, prayer generation, scripture explanations, book and chapter explanations, verse emphasis, and sermon analysis. When you choose to use an AI-supported feature, Grounded transmits the information needed to generate the requested response to Grounded’s API and an AI service provider.
Depending on the feature, this information may include:
- Your Guidance situation, theme, follow-up, and relevant context from a previous Guidance response
- Prayer input and relevant emotion, theme, scripture, or other context you select
- Scripture, verse, book, or chapter content and references
- Sermon transcript excerpts and related title or channel information
OpenAI powers several of these features. Anthropic powers certain features that rely on its service, including verse emphasis. When an applicable feature uses OpenAI or Anthropic, the content needed to provide that feature may be transmitted to and processed by that provider. Grounded does not require you to include identifying information in AI inputs, but free-form text may contain personal information if you choose to provide it. Provider retention and processing are governed by the applicable provider’s terms and settings; Grounded does not make a zero-retention or model-training guarantee in this policy.
How your information is used
Information is used to:
- Improve app functionality and performance
- Enhance user experience
- Maintain reliability and stability
- Operate subscriptions and account features
- Measure campaign performance and app installs (where applicable)
Grounded may disclose information to service providers that help operate the app, host and synchronize data, generate requested AI responses, obtain sermon transcripts, measure campaign performance, process subscriptions, provide platform functionality, maintain security, and improve reliability. Grounded does not sell personal information.
Grounded does not knowingly share personal information for unrelated third-party behavioral advertising. Data may still be processed by service providers for analytics, attribution, app operation, subscription management, security, and campaign measurement.
Third-party services
Grounded uses third-party service providers where applicable, including:
- Supabase — authentication, database, storage, synchronization, and Grounded’s product-analytics pipeline. Supabase may process account information, app content, anonymous or session identifiers, interactions, and uploaded sermon photographs. See Supabase’s Privacy Policy.
- OpenAI and Anthropic — generate requested AI-supported responses for applicable features using the information described in the AI processing section. See OpenAI’s Privacy Policy and Anthropic’s Privacy Policy.
- Supadata and YouTube — obtain sermon transcripts and related video information when you use sermon analysis.
- RevenueCat — manages subscription status and purchase verification. RevenueCat may receive app user identifiers, aliases, product and entitlement information, subscription status, and purchase or receipt information. See RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.
- Vercel — hosts the web version of Grounded and our API. Standard request metadata (such as IP address) may be processed during normal operation.
- Apple and Google / Google Play — provide platform services and process applicable store purchases, transactions, subscription management, notifications, authentication, speech recognition, and related functionality under their own terms.
- Meta / Facebook — used on iOS for limited app analytics, campaign measurement, install attribution, and app activation events (details below).
Meta App Events
Grounded uses the Meta SDK on iOS to receive limited information about app installs, app activation, and campaign performance. Advertiser identifier collection is disabled, and Grounded does not request permission to access the IDFA. Meta may process automatically logged app event and device information according to its own privacy terms. See Meta’s Privacy Policy.
In the current implementation:
- Meta App Events auto-logging is enabled for basic activation and install-related signals.
- Advertiser ID collection in the Meta SDK is disabled.
- Grounded does not request App Tracking Transparency permission.
- Grounded does not use the IDFA in the current implementation.
- The Grounded app does not currently send custom Meta purchase or user-defined events.
There is no Android Meta SDK or web Meta Pixel in the Grounded app itself at this time. The public Grounded marketing website may use Meta Pixel to measure visits, App Store link clicks, and advertising performance. Product analytics used to improve Grounded are sent to our own analytics pipeline (via Supabase), separate from Meta.
Data security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. However, no system can guarantee 100% security.
Retention
Grounded retains information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the app and the purposes described in this policy, maintain security and reliability, comply with legal or transaction-record obligations, and establish, exercise, or defend claims or resolve disputes. Retention may vary by data type and service provider. Grounded does not promise a specific retention period where one has not been established.
Account deletion
If you create an account, you can delete it in Settings → Account → Delete account. The in-app deletion process removes your Supabase Auth account, database records configured to be deleted with that account, and sermon-photo storage objects associated with the account.
Deletion does not automatically remove content stored only on your device; you can remove that content by clearing the app’s data or uninstalling the app as applicable. Some information may remain where reasonably necessary or where it is not directly linked to the deleted account, including de-identified or anonymous analytics, transaction and subscription records, newsletter records, and service-provider logs or backups. Apple, Google, RevenueCat, and other providers may retain records under their own legal and operational requirements. You can email support@getgroundedapp.com for help.
Your privacy rights
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights concerning your personal information, such as requesting access, correction, deletion, or portability; restricting or objecting to certain processing; or submitting a complaint or appeal. These rights may be subject to legal exceptions. Contact us using the email below to make a request.
International processing
Grounded and its service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Privacy and data-protection laws may differ across those locations.
Children’s privacy
Grounded is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
