Remembering what Scripture is for
Bible Guide
Bible Reading Guide
Follow your plan. Grow in His Word. Walk in His truth.
Introduction
Most people don't stop reading the Bible because they lose interest. They stop because they open it without a plan, read until they're confused, and quietly conclude they're doing it wrong. This guide gives you a rhythm — five unhurried steps that turn reading into meeting with God. It takes about forty-five minutes if you have it, and about ten if you don't.

A way to read
- Prepare
Be still and invite God's presence. About five minutes.
Put the phone face down. Pray one honest sentence before you read a word — even just "God, I'm here, teach me." You are not warming up for the real thing. This is already the meeting.
- Read
Read today's passage slowly, then read it again.
Read it once for the shape of it. Read it a second time with a pen, marking what stands out — a repeated word, a phrase that snags, something that confuses you. The second reading is where most of the discovery happens.
- Understand
Dig deeper and discover truth.
Ask three questions in order: What does this reveal about God? What is actually happening here? What is the main lesson for me? Notice that the question about you comes last — that order keeps Scripture from becoming a mirror instead of a window.
- Apply
Let truth shape your everyday.
Turn understanding into one concrete action for today. Not a resolution, not a life change — one thing you can do before you sleep. Small steps of obedience create lasting change; large ones usually create guilt.
- Pray
Talk to God about what you've learned.
Pray the passage back. Thank Him for what He revealed, confess where it convicted you, and ask for help with the one action you named. Then leave it in His hands rather than carrying it as a new obligation.
A Prayer Before You Read
Father, I am opening this book again.
Some days I come hungry and some days I come out of habit, and You have met me on both kinds of days.
Quiet the noise I brought in with me. Slow me down enough to actually hear. Show me something true about who You are before You show me anything about myself.
And when I find the thing You want me to do, give me the grace to do it today — not to admire it, not to write it down and forget it, but to live it before the day is over.
Your Word is a lamp for my feet. That is enough light. Help me take the next step.
In Jesus' name, amen.
