Reading plan

About this plan

Move through the whole of Scripture in a year — the Old Testament in order, the New Testament alongside it, and a Psalm each day. One day at a time, at your own pace.

Duration

365 days · Sequential reading plan

Reading structure

  • Old Testament in canonical order (Psalms excluded from the OT stream)
  • New Testament alongside it, Matthew through Revelation
  • One Psalm each day, cycling through Psalms 1–150
  • One day at a time, at your own pace

Your first week

Most days have three short readings: an Old Testament passage, a New Testament chapter, and one Psalm. The New Testament pauses on a few days so that both testaments finish together on Day 365. Here is exactly what the first seven days look like.

  • Day 1 — Genesis 1–2 · Matthew 1 · Psalm 1
  • Day 2 — Genesis 3–4 · Psalm 2
  • Day 3 — Genesis 5–6 · Matthew 2 · Psalm 3
  • Day 4 — Genesis 7–9 · Matthew 3 · Psalm 4
  • Day 5 — Genesis 10–11 · Matthew 4 · Psalm 5
  • Day 6 — Genesis 12–13 · Psalm 6
  • Day 7 — Genesis 14–15 · Matthew 5 · Psalm 7

Common questions

How does this Bible-in-a-year plan work?

Most days you read a passage from the Old Testament in order, a chapter from the New Testament beginning in Matthew, and one Psalm. The plan runs 365 days, one day at a time, and both testaments finish together on Day 365.

Do I have to start on January 1?

No. The plan is built by day number, not calendar date. Begin Day 1 whenever you start and keep going at your own pace.

What if I miss a day?

Pick up where you left off. In Grounded you track where you are in the plan and continue when you return, so there is no need to read everything you missed in one sitting.

Does it cover the whole Bible?

Yes. Over the year you read the Old Testament in canonical order, the New Testament from Matthew through Revelation, and a Psalm each day. The Psalms repeat, so you move through all 150 more than once.

The year-long path lives in Bible Reading Plans, where each day’s passage opens in the app so the plan is something you actually read.
