Sarah — Learning to Trust God's Promise

Genesis 11–23; Hebrews 11:11

Introduction

Sarah — first known as Sarai — left her home in Ur, following her husband Abram into an uncertain future. God had promised they would become the ancestors of a great nation, but there was one problem she lived with for decades: she couldn't have children. Genesis doesn't rush past that pain. It sits in it for chapter after chapter, through Sarah's own attempt to force the promise through her servant Hagar, through her skeptical laughter when God renewed the promise directly to her, and finally through the birth of Isaac when she was around ninety years old. Sarah isn't simply "Abraham's wife" in the story — God renames her, speaks to her, and Hebrews later commends her by name for her own faith. Her story holds real trust and real failure side by side, without flattening either one.
