Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Bible Context
Sabbath
Rest was never a reward you had to earn — it was built into creation before there was a law to keep
Introduction
Why does one day a week matter enough to make God's top ten list? Sabbath isn't just an ancient rule about not working — it's a rhythm God built into creation itself, then wove into Israel's whole identity, then reframed completely in Christ.
This study follows Sabbath from a single day, to a whole year, to a once-in-a-lifetime reset called Jubilee — and lands on what Jesus meant when He said it was made for you, not the other way around.
Scripture
And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence... therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.
The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
Translation note: Scripture quotations are from the King James Version (KJV). The King James Version is in the public domain.
