Peter — The Rock Who Stumbled
Matthew – John; Acts 1–15; 1–2 Peter
Introduction
Peter — born Simon, renamed "Rock" (Greek: Petros) by Jesus himself — was loud, impulsive, and constantly getting it wrong, and Jesus chose him to build the church on. He walked on water and then sank. He declared Jesus as the Christ and then rebuked Him. He swore he would never deny Jesus and then did it three times before dawn. Peter is the most human of the apostles, and that's exactly why his story matters. He shows us that Jesus doesn't need us to be steady — He needs us to be willing to get back up.
