Daniel — Faithful in a Foreign Land

Daniel 1–6

4 min read Free preview People of the Bible

Introduction

Daniel was likely still a teenager when he was carried from Jerusalem to Babylon in the first wave of exiles taken to serve in Nebuchadnezzar's court. He spent the rest of his long life serving pagan kings — Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, Darius, Cyrus — without ever surrendering his allegiance to the God of Israel. From his first recorded decision, refusing to eat food that would defile him, to a night spent in a den of lions, Daniel's story is a study in how to remain faithful inside a system you don't control and didn't choose. He rose to real political power, but Scripture is careful to give the credit elsewhere: every time Daniel interpreted a dream or read a warning on a wall, he pointed straight back to God.
